Spring Fever Carnival

Yesterday the new school to be had a fundraising PTA carnival. Even though her arm cast came off this week, Cutie still should not sports until she has full motion in her left arm. She spent most of her time at the crafts tables. Softball parents were there. It was nice to see familiar faces. I bonded with the Photo booth mom. I called it the "Step and Repeat". She freaked - Finally someone who knows what that is! Met D with super smart son J. They are having a hard time getting someone to keep up with J's brains. Let Me Introduce You To My PhD physics Husband!

Note to self - Set up a meeting with the Principal. Really need Big Mac for Cutie.

Play By My Rules

Cutie has a broken arm and has not been able to play sports for over a month now. She missed Synchro tryouts but managed to get a spot on two teams based on her resume. (1 year Synchro, Pre Pre MIF, Pre Dance.) We selected the team with a mission statement.

Softball started. We went to a game just to meet the team. Paulo thinks softball is a waste of time. I think he's a bit of a snob and softball is not sophisticated enough for him. I loved softball growing up and even played on the District of Columbia's Law clerks team when doing a summer internship at ERAmerica. I signed Cutie up because I hoped she would meet students at her new school. She has and we like the families. The big question was "Are you going to be in the MAC program?" MAC is multi age curriculum. After spending time with parents with children in the program, I really want her to be in it.

Step One: Sign up for school (Today)

Step Two: Take Cutie to School for a tour. (Early May after the two full weeks of state tests for 8 year olds.)

Step Three: Tell them what an independent worker she is: Makes animation movies, writes and illustrates comic books,is a mayor of Sim City 3000. (Make sure she tells the principal how hard it is to be a Mayor and doesn't tell them about cousin Vinny and the cheats) and explain she has made a few friends who are in the MAC program. Oh, and somehow let them know that her dad's an astrophysicist and that we have giant telescopes at our house.

I'm so opportunistic.

Sky Serious

Cutie made the Sky Prelim Team. We are sooooo excited. For 24 hours I was on such a high. And it's not even me who made the team. No more shalobadub moms! And with much strategizing, we managed to get my friend's daughter on the team as well. She found out who their coach was, signed her daughter up for lessons, Took her daughter to clinics (but she wouldn't skate) . Finally, at the end of year party, One of the shalbs, wouldn't let me sit down next to H because she was "reserving the seat". I told her I would leave when she returned. She showed up at the final tryout and made the team too. So cool.

Public School for Dummies

Cutie's Hebrew Day school is closing. I'm back at work at 1/3 my 1999 salary. We are off to Public School. I'm learning all about NYS school standards. I met with the principal of our Elementary school last month. She's really just a manager. Schools can't really do anything great because the "world according to NYS" is that school is all about testing. I actually like tests. However, I think you should take each test when you are ready - not because you are in 3rd grade. Just like in ice skating. But it's given right after Spring Break, every day for a week. My daughter will be 8yo for her first test. She's smart, So I'm not worried. I just think it sucks. I would like her to take the 3rd grade test in November so we can learn new stuff for the rest of the year. And I wish we had funds for prep school. Not that there's a prep school in Rockland County that I would send her to.

Broken Arm and Niagara

Cutie broke her arm on the falling off the school playground swing. She was going so high, the swing jerked. First, why are they having recess before lunch. Second, why did she have to walk carrying her broken arm to the teacher?

She was a trooper at the hospital. No skating for 6 weeks no mini-camp. Urg! it's synchro tryout month. She's trying for Sky and Team Im. So in lieu of mini camp it's Niagara. LOVED IT! Back to skating.

Cutie's skating stats for Sky:

Her current team has moved her to the next level - Preliminary which a Sat night practice, 15 mins from our house, and Sylvia as coach. However, we dream of Sky. Sky tryouts are this week. We have to write on the card which line she will except a position. Don't really want to stay in Beg. But don't think they will put us on Prelim. Also, it's 50 mins from our house on Monday night. Great coaches.
